The government has swiftly implemented a ban on the export of maize, rice, and soybeans from the country to neighboring countries.
During a press briefing, Minister for Food and Agriculture Bryan Acheampong emphasised that this measure is essential to safeguarding the nation’s food security.
“Effective immediately, the government is halting the export of grains, including maize, rice, and soybeans, until the situation stabilizes. This step is vital to ensuring these critical crops remain available on the domestic market,” the minister stated.
This decision comes in response to alarming reports that 435,872 farmers have already incurred an estimated GH₵ 3.5 billion in losses due to prolonged drought and devastated agricultural production across eight regions.
