The government of Ghana has express disappointed that Organised Labour has decided to proceed with a nationwide strike on October 10.
In a statement dated Monday, October 7, signed by Information Minister explain that the government is startle by Organised Labour’s insistence on proceeding with the strike, especially considering the government’s ongoing commitment to combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Additionally, the government supports calls for presidential candidates to sign a pact against illegal mining and intends to revoke the Environmental Protection Regulations 2023 (L.I. 2462) when Parliament reconvenes.
This development arises after organised labour’s demand for the president to declare a state of emergency on illegal mining and implement long-term solutions to the crisis.
