A member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, has formally called for the removal of the association’s president, Dr. Frank Serebour.
In a petition dated October 8 and addressed to the GMA’s General Secretary, Dr. Abayateye accused Dr. Serebour of making a public statement on behalf of the GMA without consulting its National Executive Council or General Assembly. He argues that this unilateral action has damaged the association’s reputation, particularly given its earlier stance on illegal mining.
Further, Dr. Abayateye also expressed his intent to seek Dr. Serebour’s removal at the upcoming annual general assembly in Ho, scheduled for November 3-10, 2024, and aims to secure the necessary two-thirds majority for the motion.
This petition comes after Dr. Serebour instructed GMA members to continue working, despite organised labour’s nationwide strike planned for October 10, 2024.
