Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited,Maxwell Kofi Jumah has warned employees against participating in the upcoming strike organised by labour groups in protest of illegal mining (galamsey).
In a widely circulating video, Mr Jumah warns that he will dismiss any staff member who joins the nationwide strike scheduled for October 10 due to the government’s inaction on the galamsey crisis.
While some unions, like the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), have expressed solidarity with organised labour but have instructed its members to continue providing full services, others have voiced their opposition, citing a lack of sufficient consultation.
Further, Mr Jumah emphasised that the issues prompting the strike are national in nature and do not directly affect GIHOC, which is why he is advising caution.
“If you choose not to report to work, I will lay off anyone who joins them. I am stating this authoritatively. The country has labor laws, and this issue should be a national concern, not just about GIHOC. If someone is restless and makes comments, you shouldn’t follow blindly.” He said
