Former President John Dramani Mahama presses with Ghanaians to persevere in this period of economic hardship, asserting that the NDC is the only party capable of saving the nation and ensuring a better future.
He claims that the only development-oriented party in Ghana that, when in power, guarantees the nation’s overall progress is the opposition National Democratic Congress.
On Sunday, November 19, 2023, during his Building Ghana Tour, Mr Mahama made these remarks at the Apostolic Continuation Church, Techiman, in the Bono Region.
Mr. Mahama also attributed the nation’s current backwardness and suffering to the Akufo-Addo-led government.
He added that, in contrast to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he claimed made promises that could never be kept, the NDC does not make promises that it cannot keep.
“NDC is the only development-oriented party; we are not like them; we don’t just make promises we keep, we don’t promise when we know we can’t deliver.”
The NDC flagbearer started “The Building Ghana Tour” last week in the Bono Region with the goal of bringing Ghanaians together and reviving the party in time for the 2024 presidential campaign.
He said, “People thought there was development and prosperity here, and now we have lost everything,” as he addressed the assembly. The country is inhumane, its people are suffering, and its economy is in terrible shape.
Mahama expressed dissatisfaction, saying, “I thought they would continue the good work I left behind, but the nation seems to be retrogressing in development.”
Mr. Mahama reminded the youth to hold onto their hope for a better Ghana, emphasising that the NDC is their best chance for improved development and prosperity. He reflected on the days when Ghana was known as the black star of Africa, having been the first African nation to achieve independence.
“It is very evident that our nation is not headed in the right direction. If we don’t take quick action to stop the current trend, we are undoubtedly heading into a big ditch. After hearing from a number of those who spoke during these exchanges, I also questioned what could be done on a group level to alleviate the extreme misery and adversity that many Ghanaians face. Mahma bemoaned.
The issues facing our nation are numerous and multifaceted. The impact of the struggling economy on livelihoods, prospects, and dreams is the most pressing issue, as I have concluded from my meetings with the people of Ghana throughout my journey,” he stated.
