Former leader of Floodgates of Heaven International Ministries in Orlando, Florida, Sylvester Ofori has received a life sentence for murdering his wife, Barbara Tommey, in 2020.
During jury selection, defence attorney Christopher Smith stated that Ofori will admit to committing the homicide but will challenge the premeditation charge.
Although recordings show Ofori threatening to kill Tommey the day before, Smith argued that the defence will dispute the premeditation claim.
Police reports reveal that Ofori, who had over 60,000 followers on his now-disabled social media accounts, attacked Tommey just before 9 a.m. near her workplace at the Navy Federal Credit Union on Gardens Park Boulevard.
Witnesses saw Ofori following Tommey and shooting her as she sought help at the credit union’s doors.
Ofori, 39, faces a first-degree murder charge for shooting Tommey on September 8, 2020.
