The Ghana Prisons Service recently organised a significant healthcare initiative, providing free surgical operations for 63 inmates across eight prison facilities nationwide.
These procedures, conducted at the Nsawam Prison Hospital, included 32 hernia repairs, 14 lipoma removals, seven hydrocele treatments, two fibroadenoma excisions, three bullet pellet extractions, and five cystic body swelling treatments.
The operations were carried out by a skilled medical team consisting of five consultant surgeons, two senior medical officers, three anaesthetists, and 20 allied health professionals.
This effort underscores the Prisons Service’s commitment to enhancing prison conditions and ensuring the health and well-being of inmates.
Medical Superintendent Supt. Dr. L.K. Acheampong emphasised that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, highlighting the importance of timely medical care for inmates.
The Nsawam Prison Hospital, equipped with advanced surgical facilities, played a crucial role in ensuring the success and quality of these medical interventions.
This initiative was made possible through collaboration with Chosen Hospital and True Vine Charismatic Church International.
