Written by Sarah Boye

The Ghana Police Service has remanded 39 participants from the Democracy Hub protests after their involvement in the recent demonstrations.

Among them, 28 are in police custody, while 11 have been place in prison custody for two weeks. The 28 in police custody pleaded not guilty, while the court has yet to take the pleas of the 11 in prison.

The defendants face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime (unlawful assembly), unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, assaulting a public officer, and defacing public property.

Further, prosecutors explain that the court issued a bench warrant for one protester who failed to appear, despite knowing about the proceedings after being release on police inquiry bail.

The court has adjourned the case until October 8, 2024.
