Ghana Freight Forwarders Protest Against Excessive Port Charges

Written by Sarah Boye

The Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, customs agents, and other stakeholders have voiced frustration over excessive and exploitative charges at the ports.

According to reports, freight forwarders express strong dissatisfaction with current port operations, stating that high fees push importers to seek alternatives.

“We are protesting because the shipping lines exploit us and cripple our business. Many of our importers now turn to the Togo port due to the unreasonable charges here,” one freight forwarder explained.

Futher, They also highlight that a malfunctioning APS scanner delays container processing, resulting in demurrage fees of approximately GH¢10,000, which makes business operations even more challenging.

After delivering their petition to various shipping lines, the protesters submit copies to the Ministries of Transport, Trade, and Industry.
