The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general election.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, December 4,the GFP’s Deputy General Secretary, Jerry Addo cited the NDC’s plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank and eliminate academic fees for first-year tertiary students as key factors behind the endorsement.
“The Ghana Freedom Party is fully supporting H.E. John Dramani Mahama in the election on Saturday, December 7. He represents hope for Ghanaians. Our decision is entirely independent, made without any external coercion or influence. We carefully analysed the manifestos and policies of all political parties and independent candidates, which is why it took us some time to decide.”
Further, Addo highlighted how the NDC’s vision aligns with the values of the late Akua Donkor, the GFP’s former presidential candidate, who championed women’s empowerment and accessible education.
“The NDC’s plan to establish the Women’s Development Bank reflects what our late leader deeply cared about. Their promise of free tertiary education for first-year students and support for the physically challenged also aligns with her aspirations,” he added.
The endorsement follows the disqualification of GFP’s presidential candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi (Roman Fada), by the Electoral Commission (EC) on November 12 due to errors in his nomination forms. This decision came shortly after the sudden death of Akua Donkor, the party’s original candidate.
