Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia claims that the use of Ghana Card has successfully removed ghost names from government payrolls.
Speaking during his visit to the Awutu Senya West constituency, he emphasised that the payroll database is under constant review to prevent unauthorised access to public funds.
Dr Bawumia highlighted that the government’s digitalisation efforts as a crucial tool in the fight against corruption have successfully removed ghost names from the SSNIT and National Service Scheme payrolls.
“The Ghana Card has enabled us to make significant strides in removing ghost names from government payrolls. Our first operation with SSNIT identified and eliminated 29,000 ghost names, saving 400,000 cedis. Similarly, 44,000 ghost personnel were remove from the National Service Scheme, resulting in savings of over 300 million cedis, he noted.
Further, he reassured the public that his administration remains committed to maintaining a corruption-free payroll system since the Controller and Accountant General have cleared all ghost names from the government payroll.
