The Ghanaian music duo Keche has voiced their frustration over the persistent issue of musicians receiving inadequate royalties from GHAMRO.
In an interview with Accra-based Shobiz TV, Keche revealed that despite their numerous hit songs, they have never received even GHC500 in royalties from GHAMRO.
They argued that even top artists like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy cannot claim to have received royalties amounting to GHC10,000 or GHC20,000.
“No musician can boast of receiving GHC20,000 in royalties. We don’t know what is happening. Our managers always attend these meetings, but nothing changes after the discussions. Why should we leave our jobs, which provide for us, to attend meetings that lead nowhere?
“To this day, can you name any artist who has received GHC10,000 in royalties? No. Even major artists like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy have never received GHC10,000, which is very disheartening. It makes me emotional when discussing these issues.
“Despite our many hits over the years, GHAMRO has not even given us GHC500, not even 200 or 100. So why should I bother attending these meetings?” Keche stated.
