The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has retained Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, despite his role in the team’s dismal qualification campaign.
The GFA Executive Council, led by President Kurt Okraku, made this decision after a critical meeting to address Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Further, the GFA has directed Addo to submit a comprehensive technical report by November 27, detailing the challenges faced and outlining future strategies for the team.
The Black Stars finished last in Group F without securing a single victory, marking their first AFCON qualification failure in 20 years. Angola and Sudan claimed the group’s qualification spots, with former Black Stars coach James Kwasi Appiah leading Sudan to success.
In a separate decision, the GFA dissolved the Black Stars Management Committee, citing the need for restructuring. The Executive Council expressed gratitude to the outgoing members in a statement.
“We have dissolved the management committee of the senior national football team, the Black Stars, with immediate effect. We sincerely thank the members for their contributions to Ghana Football over the years,” the statement read.
The committee has faced intense criticism for inefficiency and high remuneration. Public outrage grew after reports revealed that each member received $100,000 following Ghana’s participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
