GFA President Denies Claims Of Government Financial Support

Written by Sarah Boye

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has refuted claims that the government provides financial support to the association.

During a hearing with the Parliamentary Select Committee, Okraku clarified that the GFA does not receive any direct funding from the government.

“For the record, the government of Ghana doesn’t give the GFA any money. The Ministry of Youth and Sports funds activities related to the national teams. No government money goes into the GFA’s accounts,” Okraku stated.

He further explained that the Ministry of Sports manages all financial matters related to tournaments and qualifiers, with an accountant from the Ministry overseeing the process.

“The funds for national teams are direct to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which handles all payments. Not a single cedi reaches the GFA,” he added.

Okraku’s remarks came in response to accusations from the Save Ghana Football movement, which has alleged that the GFA is inflating and mismanaging funds.
