Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, spearheaded the Homowo Clean-up Exercise in Accra, aiming to eradicate filth and foster a cleaner environment.
The initiative kicked off on July 2 in James Town, Ga Mashie, involving activities such as de-silting clogged gutters, sweeping main streets, and removing hundreds of tonnes of waste from various parts of traditional areas such as Sempe and Gbese.
The exercise was supported by various logistics, including pick-up trucks, waste management vehicles, motorbikes, wheelbarrows, gloves, and shovels.
Participants, including shop owners and residents, used rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows to gather refuse, while heavy-duty trucks collected the waste for proper disposal.
Security personnel ensured full participation and enforcement, with shops in traditional areas closed to maximise involvement from residents and traders.
The Homowo Clean-up Exercise exemplifies the community’s dedication to taking ownership of their environment and creating a cleaner, healthier space for everyone.
This campaign is a collaborative effort by the Ga Traditional Council (GTC), the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR), Zoomlion, and security agencies.
