Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II launched the Homowo Clean-up exercise at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, announcing the closure of all shops in the designated area on July 2.

The initiative, themed “Let’s Keep Accra Clean,” aims to promote effective waste management practices, enhance environmental cleanliness, and foster community responsibility for environmental stewardship.

During his address, King Tackie stressed the importance, stating,

“We expect all shops and businesses in the designated area to close on the day of the exercise.” This month-long campaign is a collaborative effort between the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) and 25 local government authorities across Greater Accra.”

In addition to this, King Tackie unveiled plans to register households for organized waste collection services, educate residents on waste management techniques, and enforce bylaws to ensure compliance with waste management regulations.

Furthermore, he introduced a sanitation competition where schools, communities, markets, and lorry stations will compete for cleanliness awards, aimed at inspiring participation and fostering community pride.

Concluding his address, the king emphasized the non-political nature of environmental cleanliness and its universal impact, urging residents to strictly adhere to sanitation bylaws.
