Actor-turned-politician Fred Nuamah has officially withdrawn from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Nuamah’s decision was communicated through a letter addressed to the party, in which he cited extensive consultations with key stakeholders and emphasized that the choice was made entirely independent of any external influence.
Nuamah, a staunch member of the NDC, expressed his belief that party unity is of paramount importance leading up to the 2024 general election. He stated, “I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general election. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party’s unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country.”
The actor-turned-aspirant also used the letter to throw his unwavering support behind his close friend and fellow contender, John Dumelo. Nuamah’s endorsement of Dumelo as the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency highlights his commitment to the party’s success. He said, “I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo, to be the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency.”
Fred Nuamah expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his supporters and well-wishers, acknowledging their steadfast encouragement throughout his journey. He encouraged his followers to rally behind John Dumelo, extending his support to the endorsed candidate. “I urge all my supporters across all levels of the party in the constituency to rally behind John Dumelo and provide him with the needed support,” Nuamah emphasized.
The decision to withdraw comes just days after the NDC reinitiated the nomination process in 18 constituencies, where elections had previously been delayed due to internal differences. Notably, in Ayawaso West Wuogon, the vetting of candidates was suspended in April, and the election, initially scheduled for May 13, was postponed. The recent developments in the party indicated that these issues have now been resolved.
Fred Nuamah’s decision to contest the same seat as his close friend John Dumelo initially surprised many Ghanaians when it was announced in March. Dumelo had publicly declared his candidacy just a few days prior, setting the stage for what seemed like a competitive race between two prominent figures in the entertainment industry turned politics.
With Fred Nuamah’s withdrawal and his endorsement of John Dumelo, the dynamics of the NDC parliamentary primary in Ayawaso West Wuogon have shifted once again. As the NDC strives for unity and prepares for the upcoming general election in 2024, the support and solidarity among its members, as exemplified by this turn of events, will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s path forward.
