Former Second Lady Matilda Amissah-Arthur, widow of the late Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, recounted a harrowing robbery and near-fatal attack in her bedroom on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

She described how an intruder, dressed in black, broke into her room, demanding money and threatening to kill her and anyone who intervened.

Despite handing over $2,200 and 50 euros, the robber grew angry and ransacked her room for more valuables.

In a video testimony, Mrs. Amissah-Arthur explained that she complied with the attacker’s demands to avoid being killed.

During the ordeal, she requested water, which the attacker fetched from her fridge, only to resume strangling her after she took a sip.

“I thought I was dreaming. I sat on my bed and rubbed my face to be sure.

The intruder said, ‘If you shout and someone comes, I’ll kill them and you. Give me the money,’” she narrated.

She handed over the money she had for renovating her mother’s house, but the intruder was dissatisfied.

“He turned my room upside down, didn’t find more money or jewelry, and said, ‘You wasted my time, so I will kill you. But I have to call my boss.’ He then dragged me from the bed and hit my head on the ground,”.

After speaking on the phone, the intruder decided against shooting her, opting to strangle her instead.

“He started strangling me, and when I got thirsty, I said, ‘I am thirsty.’ He fetched water, let me sip, then snapped it away and continued strangling me,” Mrs. Amissah-Arthur revealed.
