Former NPP Regional Chairman Reveals Motive Behind Leaked Tape Involving Senior Police Officers Over Alleged Plot to Remove IGP

Written by admin

The former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has come forward to explain his role in recording a conversation between himself and several senior police officers. The purpose of the recording, according to Naabu, was to preserve an unaltered account of discussions centered around an alleged plot to remove the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP), ostensibly to safeguard the interests of his political party.

Bugri Naabu made this revelation during his appearance before a Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee convened to investigate the leaked tape and its implications. The committee, established to shed light on the authenticity of the leaked recording and the allegations it contains, was chaired by Samuel Atta-Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South.

Appearing before the committee on Monday, August 28, 2023, Bugri Naabu provided crucial insights into the events that led up to the recording. He asserted that his primary motivation for recording the conversation was to ensure that the message conveyed in the discussion remained unadulterated as he intended to pass it on to President Akufo-Addo.

In response to queries about the leaked tape, Bugri Naabu disclosed that he sought external assistance to conduct the recording, as he was unable to carry out the task himself. He named the three senior police officers involved in the conversation as Commander Asare, COP Mensah, and Superintendent Gyebi.

Elaborating on the method he employed to record the conversation, Bugri Naabu explained that he purchased a recording device from the Accra Mall. He justified his decision by emphasizing that he wanted to capture the details of the discussion accurately, as relying on memory alone might lead to omission or misrepresentation of critical information.

The leaked tape, which has sparked a nationwide discourse due to its content involving high-ranking police officers and allegations of plotting against the IGP, prompted the establishment of the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee. The committee’s mandate is to delve into the authenticity of the leaked recording and the intricate allegations that have taken center stage in national conversations.

Bugri Naabu’s testimony has provided crucial insight into the circumstances surrounding the recording, shedding light on his motivations and the steps he took to ensure that the message he wanted to convey remained intact. As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are on the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee to determine the veracity of the allegations and the potential implications they could have on the country’s political and law enforcement landscape.

The nation eagerly awaits the findings of the committee as it seeks to uncover the truth behind the leaked tape and the alleged plot involving senior police officers and political interests. The outcome of this investigation could have far-reaching consequences for the New Patriotic Party, law enforcement agencies, and the broader political landscape of Ghana.
