Former NPP General Secretary John Boadu Declares No Plans for Parliamentary Contest

Written by admin

In a recent interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, made it clear that he has no intentions of contesting any parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2024 elections. This announcement comes in the wake of speculation regarding his political future following his defeat in the NPP election.

Mr. Boadu cited the demanding nature of parliamentary duties and his current state of exhaustion as the primary reasons for his decision to stay away from parliamentary politics. He expressed his belief that the responsibilities associated with being a Member of Parliament are strenuous, and at this juncture in his political career, he feels it would not be in his best interest to engage in them.

When questioned by the show host, Osei Bonsu (OB), about whether he was concerned about not receiving any political appointment after losing the General Secretary position within the NPP, Mr. Boadu remained resolute in his response. He stated that his immediate focus and dedication lie in ensuring that the NPP successfully secures victory in the 2024 elections, breaking the eight-year cycle that has traditionally seen power alternated between the two major political parties in Ghana.

In a surprising turn of events, John Boadu lost his seat as General Secretary to the former Youth Employment Agency (YEA) boss, Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), during the NPP elections. JFK secured a total of 2,837 votes, narrowly defeating Mr. Boadu, who garnered 2,524 votes.

Prior to this election, many political observers had speculated that John Boadu would be offered a ministerial appointment in a potential reshuffle by President Nana Akufo-Addo. However, it appears that this prediction did not materialize, leaving Mr. Boadu to chart a new course within the party.

Despite these recent developments, it is clear that John Boadu remains committed to the NPP’s overall mission and is determined to contribute to the party’s success in the 2024 elections. While he may not be pursuing a parliamentary seat, his wealth of experience and dedication to the party’s cause make him a valuable asset in the NPP’s quest to retain power in the upcoming election. As Ghana’s political landscape continues to evolve, the decisions of key figures like John Boadu will undoubtedly shape the future of the nation’s politics.
