The Ghana football Association has announced the untimely death of former Legon City goalkeeper William Essu, who passed away at the age of 22 at the University of Cape Coast Hospital after a brief illness.
Reports indicate Essu fell ill on Friday and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed on Saturday evening.
In its statement, the association expressed,
“We had hoped for Essu’s recovery as he showed signs of improvement during his illness and had even appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to release his outstanding bonuses to assist with his medical expenses. Sadly, we lost him to the cruel hands of death.”
“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and teammates during this challenging period. May his memory continue to inspire us both on and off the field.”
Essu played a pivotal role in Ghana’s U-23 team, which successfully qualified for the AFCON in Morocco last year.
