Former judge sues Judicial Service, Chief Justice and Attorney General over dismissal

Written by Louis

After being fired due to allegations of wrongdoing, Alfred Kwabena Asiedu, a former judge on the Jasikan Circuit Court, filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General, Chief Justice Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, and the Judicial Service.

This follows the Chief Justice’s dismissal of him for allegedly misusing his position of authority and sexually abusing a client who appeared in his court seeking justice. After initially dismissing the charges as the petitioner’s fantasy, Mr. Asiedu is now asking the court to deem his termination from office to be “unlawful.”

Among the reliefs sought, Mr. Asiedu asks for a ruling that his removal from office, as stated in the November 13, 2023, letter signed by Chief Justice, the second respondent, is illegal.

He also requests declarations claiming that the Judicial Council and the Disciplinary Committee overreached in their conclusions that he was the victim of malicious prosecution.
He argues that these conclusions represent a clear legal error on the record and that the court’s supervisory powers need to invalidate them.

Singari Diana Sadia started the controversy on January 16 when she filed a petition with the Chief Justice, charging Judge Asiedu of power abuse, sexual exploitation, malicious prosecution, and improper conduct in a divorce case.
The petition was then forwarded to the Judiciary Service disciplinary committee, which looked into it and made the recommendation that the judge be fired.

Chief Justice Torkornoo ordered Judge Asiedu to turn over his official belongings, including his official car, dockets, and record books, to the Judicial Secretary in response to the disciplinary findings in a letter.
