Former Black Queens goalkeeper Patricia Mantey, has pleaded with the Ghana Football Association, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the public for financial assistance to cover her GH₵60,000 cost of a ligament surgery.
In an interview on Asempa FM, Mantey revealed that she sustained the injury during a friendly match on in October 2021.
“It happened during a corner kick. I jumped to catch the ball, and when I landed, I felt my leg twist. An MRI test confirmed torn ligament tissues, necessitating the expensive surgery. I now rely on crutches and a leg brace to move.”
BACKGROUND
Patricia Mantey was part of the Black Queens team that defeated host nation Côte d’Ivoire 1-0 to win the inaugural WAFU Zone B Women’s tournament in Abidjan.
She also played for the Black Maidens team that qualified Ghana for its first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand in 2008 with a 2-1 victory over Cameroon in Yaoundé.
Additionally, she helped Ghana Immigration Ladies secure their first qualification for the National Women’s League (NWL) in 2012
