Former Asante Kotoko Player And Coach Michael Osei Dies At 53

Ghanaian popular football team Asante Kotoko has confirmed the death of their former player and coach, Michael Osei, at 53. 

Michael Osei passed away in London on Friday, November 15, 2024, after battling a heart condition for several months. Known as one of Ghana’s most talented midfielders, he started his football career with Okwawu United and later achieved legendary status at Asante Kotoko. 

His outstanding performances earned him a move to the German Bundesliga, where he played for Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz.05. As a coach, Osei managed Asante Kotoko and other Ghanaian Premier League clubs, including Liberty Professionals and Bibiani Goldstars, his last team before relocating abroad last year.

Further, He also contributed to Ghana’s football development, serving as assistant coach for the U23 national team, the Black Meteors, for five years. Paying tribute, Asante Kotoko stated,

“We are deeply sadden by the passing of our former player and coach Michael Osei, who has been battling a heart condition in recent months.”
