The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise has strongly criticised the 8th Parliament of Ghana for its poor performance and behavior.
Speaking to Citi News, Joe Wise highlighted that the 8th Parliament has failed to meet the legislative standards set by previous sessions, falling short of expectations. Thus, criticize the current session for lacking focus, being intertwist in controversies, and neglecting its primary duty of lawmaking.
Further, the Deputy Speaker also noted the significant drop in legislative output, comparing the current session unfavourably with its predecessors. and express frustration over Parliament’s habit of diverting by unproductive disputes rather than prioritising the passage of laws.
“I am dismay in the eighth Parliament. We’ve done very little in terms of legislation. If you compare the number of laws and smaller legislation passed over the last four years with previous Parliaments, this one has performed the worst. We have spent too much time on trivial issues.Our main responsibility is to make laws, but we now find ourselves entangled in controversies and physical altercations over matters we once resolved through dialogue.-Osei-Owusu lamented
