Filmmaker David Nicol-Sey Accuses Highly Spiritual Music CEO of Hypocrisy

Written by admin

Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker and producer, David Nicol-Sey, has taken to social media to call out David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa, the CEO of Highly Spiritual Music, for what he deems as hypocritical behavior. Nicol-Sey alleges that Kaywa betrayed his trust after he advised him to conduct business ethically, only to witness the label head engage in actions contradictory to those principles. The filmmaker claims that instead of using funds from a music acquisition to promote the album and secure future deals, Kaywa and his artists went on a vehicle-purchasing spree, leading to the album’s failure.

David Nicol-Sey, a respected figure in the Ghanaian film industry, has expressed his disappointment with Kaywa’s actions in a series of tweets. He recounted his involvement in securing a music acquisition and advance contract for Kaywa and his then-artist, Mr. Drew, which marked their first-ever deal of this nature. Nicol-Sey claims that he advised Kaywa to prioritize ethical business practices, urging him to reinvest the acquired funds into album promotion or potential future acquisitions.

According to David Nicol-Sey, his advice fell on deaf ears, as Kaywa and his artists opted to splurge on vehicles instead of focusing on the album’s promotion. This decision, Nicol-Sey suggests, ultimately contributed to the album’s failure. The filmmaker now finds it hypocritical that Kaywa, in recent weeks, has embarked on a media tour, complaining about the lack of business ethics in the industry, despite disregarding similar advice in the past.

In addition to his accusations of hypocrisy, Nicol-Sey highlights the recent departures of several artists from Kaywa’s label. Lasmid, Mr. Drew, Kurl Songx, Yaw Berk, Krymi, and others have all left Highly Spiritual Music, and Kaywa has been vocal about blaming external factors for their exits. However, Nicol-Sey asserts that the CEO should take responsibility for these departures, as his alleged failure to adhere to ethical business practices could have contributed to the artists’ decisions to seek opportunities elsewhere.
