The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has stepped up its market surveillance efforts, seizing numerous unapproved products from the Ghanaian market.
During a recent operation, which included media coverage, James Aboakye, the market surveillance team lead, encouraged the public to remain vigilant. He advised consumers to thoroughly inspect product details—such as food, medicine, and personal care items like shower gels—to ensure they comply with FDA standards.
“We regularly conduct market surveillance activities,” Aboakye explained. “Based on the intelligence we gather, we visit various districts and carry out inspections in different facilities, including pharmacies, marts, shops, and stores selling household items. Our primary focus is to ensure that all food products regulated by the FDA meet our standards.”
This intensified crackdown follows the FDA’s actions against over 100 manufacturing companies nationwide since January for promoting unauthorised products.
