Fake Military officer and a husband of two wives, Rufai Abubakar has been detained by the Military Police (MP) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for attempting to book a flight at the Air Force Base in Burma Camp to Tamale, the regional capital of the Northern Region, under the guise of a senior military officer.
The on-duty guards became suspicious of his movements, and after a confrontation, he admitted that he was not an officer.
In a press release dated Wednesday, December 7, it was stated that the suspect claimed to be stationed at the Northern Command headquarters while wearing a military camouflage uniform and a fake Lieutenant Colonel rank.
According to the presser, “Rufai also disclosed that he had pretended to be a senior military officer in order to con one Mr. Abdallah Abdul Fatahu out of three thousand Ghana cedis (GH $3,000.00) while pretending to be recruiting him for the Ghana Armed Forces.”
“The suspect was in possession of fake military identification, business cards, and other documents bearing his name at the time of his arrest.”
He sent the military police to two residences, where subsequent searches turned up a number of certificates and fake GAF recruitment reports “bearing names of defrauded persons, military uniforms and accoutrements, including a toy pistol.”
He has since been turned over to the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) for additional investigation and prosecution.
“However, considering that his two wives living at Ablekuma and Olebu respectively were under the false impression that their husband was a real military officer, it is possible that many other persons may have fallen victim to his impersonations and fraudulent activities.”
Such persons are entreated to contact the CID to aid in investigations.
