The Electoral Commission (EC) has rejected the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC’s) demand for a forensic audit of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
The EC stated that it has not fully applied the legal and administrative processes needed to clean the register, making a forensic audit unnecessary. It communicated this position in a letter addressed to NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, following the party’s petition after its September 17, 2024, demonstration.
The EC also sent the letter to key stakeholders, including the Majority and Minority Leaders of Parliament, civil society organisations, the diplomatic community, and religious bodies like the National Peace Council and the Christian Council of Ghana. The letter reaffirmed the EC’s stance.
“The Commission believes it has not fully utilized the established legal and administrative processes to clean the PVR, making a forensic audit unnecessary. We urge the public to trust us to fulfil our mandate,” the letter concluded”.
