The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensa, has clarified that the EC does not handle security during elections.
In her address to Parliament, Mrs Mensa emphasized that the role of the election is solely on election-related activities.
“People often think that the Electoral Commission is responsible for security, but this falls under the mandate of the security agencies. We do participate in the Election Security Task Force at national, regional, and district levels, but the Electoral Commission itself does not handle security.
“Our role is to work with them by providing details of all our centers and our printing arrangements, enabling them to protect the ballots, especially during transportation to the regions.”
The EC collaborates with the National Election Security Task Force, led by the Inspector General of Police, to ensure the safety of voters and property at election centers nationwide.
