Education Ministry Commited To Maintaining Licensure Examination

Written by Sarah Boye

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr John Ntim Fordjour, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to upholding the licensure examination for teachers.

During the launch of this year’s Ghana Teacher Prize in Accra, Dr Fordjour emphasised its importance in maintaining high standards in the education sector.

He highlighted that the examination ensures that the nation produces qualified educators capable of meeting modern teaching demands.

This assertion comes in response to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) flagbearer’s call to abolish the teacher licensure examination.

He emphasized that despite the introduction of various reforms, the licensure exams offer the first structured approach to formally recognize teachers as professionals.

“This framework is crucial, as it acknowledges the pivotal role teachers play in the success of all other professions.”

Further, he added that, as World Teachers’ Day approaches on October 5, Ghana will join the global celebration under the theme

“Celebrating Excellence, Valorising Our Teachers.”
