EC Vows To Hold Officers Accountable For Electoral Misconduct

Written by Sarah Boye

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has firmly warned that it will not protect any of its officers found guilty of electoral misconduct.

During a press briefing on September, Deputy Chairperson for Corporate Services, 2, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, affirmed that the Commission will hold both temporary and permanent officers accountable and ensure they face legal consequences for any illegal activities.

This statement came in response to concerns raised by political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following the voter exhibition.

Additionally, the Commission also admitted to mistakes in the Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam Constituency and confirmed that these issues have been rectified.

“During preparations for the 2024 Exhibition Exercise, the Absent Voters List and the Transferred Voters List mistakenly included all transfers made since 2020, resulting in an unexpectedly high number of absent and transferred voters.”

The Commission has since corrected the issue and will share the updated Absent and Transferred Voters List with all political parties, ensuring it includes only those who successfully applied for transfers or special voting for the 2024 General Elections.
