EC Unveils Election Plans For Council Of State Regional Delegates

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to hold elections for Regional Representatives to the Council of State, in accordance with Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution. 

In a press statement dated January 22, the EC invited eligible individuals to submit their nomination forms if they wish to run for election. 

That is, candidates must include two recent bust-sized photographs with a red background that clearly display their full face. Each nomination must receive a proposal and seconding from two registered voters in the region, along with the support of 20 other registered voters from the same region, and candidates must also consent to their nomination for election to the Council of State. 

Further, the EC specified that nomination forms should be succumb to the regional directors of the respective regions between Tuesday, January 28, and Friday, January 31, 2025. 

Additionally, the EC has ratified that elections will occur in all regional capitals on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at venues that the Commission will make public.
