The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare has pledge that the Commission is ready to tackle potential cyber threats to its systems and processes in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at the JoyNews National Dialogue on Cybersecurity at Election 2024 Crossroads on October 16, Dr Asare emphasise the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding its technological infrastructure and ensuring that proper protocols are carry out at all locations handling manual processes.
“I can confidently say that from the EC’s perspective, we are completely ready. We have considered both technological threats and manual processes, and we are diligently working to address them,” he stated.
Additionally, Dr Asare underscored the important role of technology in voter registration and exhibition, while highlighting that the majority of election-day operations are manual.
“On election day, apart from registration and exhibition, about 95 percent of our processes are manual. I don’t believe the remaining 5 percent is substantial enough to undermine the majority of our efforts,”
He expressed confidence in the success of the December 7 elections, noting that the Commission aims to exceed the performance of previous elections.
