The Electoral Commission (EC) has rejected the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) call for a forensic audit of the voter register, labelling it both unnecessary and misguided.
During a press briefing on Thursday, the Deputy Chairman in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, emphasised that such an audit would not improve the EC’s established processes for updating the provisional voter register.
“The commission believes this audit adds no value to the well-established, proven methods for refining the provisional voter register, Should discrepancies arise, it remains the commission’s task to resolve them, which is exactly what we are already doing.”he stated.
Further, he reiterated that the EC finds the NDC’s request unnecessary and emphasised that the ongoing exhibition process will continue to strengthen the voter register, as it has done in the past.
