The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr Omane Boamah, has announced that the Electoral Commission (EC) has rejected the party’s request for a forensic audit of the voters’ register.

This follows after an emergency meeting with the EC in Accra on Friday where the NDC had called the meeting to address what it identified as significant discrepancies in the register from a recent review.

Dr Boamah said,

“We believe the organisation that created the problem should not be the one to solve it. This is why we have referral systems in healthcare. He urge that if the EC has nothing to hide, it should agree to an independent audit, mentioning that the UNDP is ready to support this process if the EC makes a formal request.

Further, he also pointed out that he had proposed an independent audit at IPAC meetings two months ago, but the EC did not agree.

Moreover Dr Boamah stressed that development partners are eager to assist with such audits and asserted that the NDC can help. He criticised the EC for rejecting the independent audit, comparing it to doctors who wait too long to refer patients until the situation becomes critical.
