The Electoral Commission (EC) has destroyed defective ballot papers meant for the Ahafo and Volta Regions after identifying serialisation errors.
Police officers and representatives of various political parties closely supervised the destruction on Thursday, November 21.
Upon discovering the errors, the EC immediately stopped transferring the flawed ballots. To resolve the issue, the Commission hired Buck Press and Acts Commercials to reprint error-free ballots, ensuring the electoral process remains credible.
The EC rejected claims that political parties discovered the defect, asserting that its internal quality control systems flagged the issue. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) insists its representatives first identified the problem, leading to the corrective measures.
This action forms part of the EC’s ongoing preparations for the 2024 general elections, where maintaining transparency and accuracy is essential to building public trust.
