The Electoral Commission (EC) has responded to concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the credibility of the 2024 Voters Register.
During a press conference on Thursday, Samuel Tettey, Deputy Commissioner of Operations, called on the NDC to bring their concerns forward for thorough investigation and resolution, emphasising that protests are not the appropriate way to address the issue.
The Commission prompt the NDC that during a previous meeting, it promise any concerns would be look into within a week, but the process cannot proceed until the party submits the necessary data.
Further, the EC expressed confidence that constructive dialogue, rather than street protests, would lead to a credible and reliable voters’ register and urged former President John Mahama to encourage his party to engage in discussions with the Commission.
Reiterating its commitment to transparency, the EC assured the public and political parties that it is working diligently to address any discrepancies and to provide a voters’ register that guarantees free, fair, and credible elections ahead of the December 2024 general elections.
The Commission called for public trust, noting its successful delivery in 2020 and its dedication to doing so again.
