Health Minister Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye has underscored the major strides in healthcare delivery due to the completion of various health infrastructure projects across the country.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, September 18, he announced that previously incomplete hospitals, such as the Kumawu District Hospital, which had been less than 30% finished before this administration, are now fully operational.
Further, Dr Okoe-Boye highlighted upgrades to existing facilities, including the $20 million second phase of the Bolgatanga Hospital.
“Previously, hospitals send patients elsewhere for crucial diagnostic tests like CT scans. Now, Bolgatanga has its own fully operational CT scan, a significant advancement in healthcare services,” he said.
He emphasised the transformative impact of new facilities like the Urology and Nephrology Centres at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. “The Urology Centre, with its 71 beds and two 24/7 operating theatres, will drastically reduce waiting times for procedures and enhance patient outcomes,” he explained.
The Minister also highlighted the government’s adoption of innovative technology, including drone deliveries, to improve access to medical supplies in remote areas.
“Drones are now delivering life-saving medicines to rural regions facing transportation challenges, which has been particularly vital in emergencies,” he added.
Additionally, Dr Okoe-Boye acknowledge that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration initiated the Kumawu and Fomena District Hospitals projects.
