Dr Nyaho Tamakloe Alleges Dr Bawumia Denied Choice of Running Mate

Written by Sarah Boye

A senior member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe , has claimed that the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was not allowed to choose his running mate for the upcoming December elections.

In an interview with 3FM Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged that Dr. Bawumia was compelled to accept Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, despite concerns over Prempeh’s perceived arrogance.

Nyaho-Tamakloe reiterated his earlier prediction that Dr. Bawumia would not be able to make his own decision, questioning why Bawumia was not given the same freedom to choose his running mate as previous NPP leaders, including former President Akufo-Addo.

He emphasised that Dr. Bawumia’s inability to choose his own running mate is unprecedented, citing examples of other leaders who were allowed to pick their own running mates.

This controversy follows reports that Dr. Bawumia has named Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.

Sources indicate that Dr. Bawumia sought advice from President Akufo-Addo during a meeting on Tuesday night about his choice of running mate.
