The running mate to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has clarified that his comments about Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, have been misinterpreted.

During his visit to the Omanhene of the Wassa Amenfi traditional area and President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, on Wednesday, July 10, Dr. Opoku Prempeh clarified his remarks.

He said,

“They have misrepresented what I said. I mentioned that since 1957, from Kwame Nkrumah’s tenure to the present, no government has achieved more than Nana Akufo-Addo’s. In our politics, if you speak the truth, you are called ungrateful; if you lie, you are praised. I was raised to be neither untruthful nor cowardly.”

This clarification follows his assertion made at his unveiling at Jubilee Park in Kumasi on July 9. At that event, Dr. Opoku Prempeh boldly claimed that no Ghanaian president has developed the country more than President Akufo-Addo, not even Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“I can boldly say that if the history of Ghana is told from 1957, we have never had a president who has helped Ghana more than Nana Akufo-Addo. I mean, from 1957, even including your Kwame Nkrumah, none of them has protected Ghana and developed the country more than Nana Akufo-Addo,” he stated.
