Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese has emphasized that navigating the challenges of securing movie roles demands significant resilience.
In a conversation on Joy Prime, she shared her insights into the challenges actors face both inside and outside the industry.
“I hear people say, ‘I want to act’ all the time, but being an actor can be one of the most disheartening careers. No matter where you are in the world, you might feel confident after an audition—sometimes going through several rounds, even up to four. By the time you’ve been called back that many times, you might start to believe you’ve landed the role, only to find out you haven’t. It builds you up and then brings you down. You need to develop thick skin, or you’ll start taking it personally,” she explained.
Further, She mentioned that over her career, she has auditioned for more roles than she has actually landed. Last year alone, she lost out on over twenty roles despite her experience. However, she remains resolute, viewing rejection as part of the industry.
