Former Black Stars midfielder Derek Boateng has criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for its failure to secure suitable playing pitches for the national team.
In a recent interview, he emphasised that the GFA must take action, as it is their responsibility to provide quality pitches for home games in Ghana.
“They only care about money. Our players compete on excellent fields in Europe, then return to play on terrible pitches. It’s unreasonable to expect them to perform well under such conditions. If they don’t win, there’s a problem. If the GFA truly cared about football, they would ensure that everything was in place before the players arrived. They can’t place pressure on players for underperforming when the circumstances are so poor.”
In recent weeks, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has closed the Baba Yara Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium, and Cape Coast Stadium to prepare for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, where the Black Stars are set to host Sudan.
This decision comes after CAF imposed a ban on Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana’s only approved international venue, due to its poor pitch, forcing the country to seek an alternative location abroad for the next Black Stars match.
