Democracy Hub Condemns Arrests Of Protesters

Written by Sarah Boye

The organisers of the three-day protests, Democracy Hub, have condemned the arrest and detention of demonstrators protesting national issues.

In a statement, they accused the police of deliberately violating due process by denying the protesters access to legal counsel, calling it a breach of their constitutional rights.

The police arrested around 40 protesters, with 39 appearing under heavy security at the Accra Circuit Court.

Reports indicate that authorities have remanded them in police custody for two weeks on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically unlawful assembly.

Additionally, the court also issued a bench warrant for one protester who failed to appear.
