Dead Man Wins District Level Election

Written by Louis

The district-level elections in the electoral area were held last Tuesday. Manasseh Addison Sackey, the assembly member for Tebrebe Electoral Area in the TarkwaNsuaem Municipality in the Western Region, who drowned while on a campaign visit, won.

Recall that the assemblyman also referred to as “Teacher Obuor,” drowned in the Bonsa River in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency. He served as the deputy secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area.

According to information acquired, the terrible situation happened while the assembly member—also the headteacher of Aboponiso MA School—was traveling from the electoral region to Mile 10 and a half for a campaign.

According to accounts, the four fell into the river when the canoe overturned as they were traveling. While the other two, including the assembly member, drowned, two of them were able to swim out of the river.

With three votes separating him and the first runner-up, the assembly member—whose name and photo were still on the voting paper—won the election. The late Manasseh Addison Sackey received 860 votes, defeating 857 for Bernard Obeng and 637 for Michael Dompreh.

Some locals expressed disbelief at the deceased’s triumph, while others said, “It feels like he’s still here, leading our community. Residents noted, “His unexpected victory has brought some kind of excitement in the area, but his untimely death threw the community into a state of mourning.”
