Many Ghanaian fans are shocked that Davido gave his OK for his celebrity impersonator to play his song at a club.
This comes after the kerfuffle over growing lookalike stars in Ghanaian showbiz. Some boy groups who have been identified as lookalikes of King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Medikal, and Mr. Drew have been trending in recent videos and headlines.
The boys from some popular videos both performed live and gave radio and television interviews.
The emergence of doppelganger personalities and their online actions has drawn criticism from artists like Shatta Wale, Medikal, and Edem, among others. Some think the mimicry must end, but Davido doesn’t seem to agree.
The Nigerian musician and his lookalike were spotted in the club during the birthday celebration of Nigerian socialite, Obi Cubana, and he gave him his OK to perform his most recent hit song, “Unavailable,” at the party.
Excitedly watching and laughing, Davido stood among the spectators. The aforementioned doppelganger, who has been impersonating Davido in social media posts and videos, took to his Instagram page to express his joy.
He claims that Davido asked him to sing the song. Wow, thank God, I finally saw @davido during @obi_cubana’s birthday. @davido said to cancel my performance for him, and I didn’t blow.
