Renowned Nigerian singer Davido credits his father’s teachings on faith for shaping his resilience and perspective on life.
In a recent interview, Davido described how growing up in a Christian home with his father, a successful businessman and elder in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, instilled in him strong values and trust in God. He highlighted one lesson that stood out above all: never question God’s plans.
Davido shared how this advice guided him through life’s most challenging moments, including the heartbreaking loss of his son, Ifeanyi. Although he initially struggled to understand his father’s wisdom, he gradually realised its importance over time.
Reflecting on recent blessings such as the birth of twins, the release of his most successful album, and his first Grammy nominations, Davido acknowledged how these events reinforced his faith. His father’s lessons, he explained, gave him the strength to endure adversity and trust God’s timing.
“My dad is very successful, but he’s also an elder in the church. I grew up as a Seventh-day Adventist and attended a Christian college. At first, I didn’t understand why bad things happen to good people. I was angry and kept asking, ‘Why?’ But my dad always said, ‘You can’t question God,’” Davido explained.
He added,
“After losing my son, I was broken, but within a year, we had twins, I released the biggest album of my career, and I got Grammy nominations. Then it all started to make sense. Life has challenges, but God always has your back.”
