MP for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has firmly denied rumours that she is reconsidering her decision to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections.
In a statement issued on October 22, Cynthia Morrison dismissed the rumours as false, urging the public and her constituents to disregard the claims. She reiterated her commitment to running as an independent candidate, calling on her supporters to remain vigilant against misinformation, and emphasised that her position has not changed.
“We want to categorically state that these reports are inaccurate and do not reflect the Hon. MP’s current stance. Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the MP for Agona West, remains committed to serving her constituents and has not withdrawn her independent candidacy,” the statement read.
The denial comes after photos taken on October 22, 2024, showing her with some majority members at Parliament’s Job 600 office, sparked speculation about a possible change in her candidacy. Thus, these images led to assumptions that Morrison might abandon her independent run after losing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries to Christopher Arthur.
Further, Cynthia had earlier declared her intention to contest as an independent candidate, a decision that generated controversy.
