Agona West Member of Parliament, Cynthia Morrison, has officially announced her decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.
During a recent meeting with her constituents, the former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection reaffirmed her dedication to the development of Agona.
“God willing, I will be contesting the parliamentary election as an independent candidate. This isn’t about the NDC or the NPP; it’s about Agona’s progress,” she declared.
This decision follows her defeat in the NPP parliamentary primary on April 13, where she received 152 votes, losing to Christopher Arthur, who secured 240 votes.
Despite this setback, Ms Morrison remains committed to her constituency and urged residents to support her independent bid.
“I don’t mind whether you vote for former President John Dramani Mahama or Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. What matters most is that you vote overwhelmingly for Cynthia Morrison so I can return to complete the work I started,”
Ms Morrison first won the Agona West seat in the 2016 general elections and re-elected in 2020 with 30,513 votes out of a total of 59,193 valid votes cast.
