Delegates of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) will vote on September 4 to choose a presidential candidate for the December 7 general election.
The National Executive Council set the date after party leadership approved two senior members—former chairperson Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah and private legal practitioner Frimpong Yaw Anokye—to compete.
With just seven days to campaign, both candidates must persuade delegates why they deserve to lead the party.
The party’s leadership acknowledged delays in campaign efforts due to a legal dispute but expressed confidence in catching up after the presidential primaries.
To prevent further disruptions, the National Executive Council urged members to avoid taking internal disputes to court and to work together to overcome current challenges.
Further, The secretary to the congress committee, Eben Agbenya, reveal that the election will be decentralise to strengthen the party’s grassroots across all 16 regions.
Additionally, the CPP plans to field parliamentary candidates only in strategically selected constituencies where they see potential for success and have strong candidates.
